Lake Levee Dam Road Closed for Safety
July 15th, 2019 by iPhoneDue to deficiencies in the Lake Monticello dam, the lake levee road has been closed, until further notice.
This includes vehicles, ATVs, foot traffic, bicycles, animals, and anything in the levee.
In a Friday evening conversation with mayor Paige Chase, MLive was informed that recent photos show potential weaknesses in the dam structure, which could lead to breaches, based on added stresses in the levee.
The levee will be further evaluated Tuesday, by geologists/engineers in this field, who will report back to city, county and state authorities.
Until then, it is being monitored multiple times each day by city employees.
The drain, which had been recently opened to allow for timber harvest, has been opened to its maximum flow, to decrease water pressure on the levee/dam.

1. drain the lake completely
2. fix the problem right instead of patching
3. Ask AGFC to create a trophy bass lake. (probably would have to beg now)
As result, you accommodate to different types of interests instead of just the pontoon users. The voters were worried about being several years without fish. Why not invest and make it great. Not a wasteland.
I live on cottonwood lane just south of 35 and I want to know from someone that knows how worried the people that live on cottonwood lane should be that there is a real possibility of a levee breach? Do we need to think about evacuating? I’d like to know be before Monday when I can actually go to City Hall and talk to someone!
