Lake Levee Could Be Completed, Today
July 26th, 2021 by Joe BurgessMLive spoke with Mayor Paige Chase, late last week, and got an update on the status of the levee repair at Lake Monticello.
The engineers have inspected the levee and found
the finger drains and report them to be in good working order.
The levee work is almost finished. Marsau was asked to widen the crest of the levee, back to the width it was before the repair, which they are expecting to do, today, weather permitting.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has hinge-cut trees around half of the lake (approximately 300 trees), and continue to do that, as well as continuing to build fish habitats.
After Marsau completes the final levee repair, AG&F will build roads to the remaining ponds in the lake, to Rotenone them, which will reduce the number of “bad fish“ remaining in the lake.
City employees have rebuilt one dock, demolished another, and are rebuilding yet, and will do the same with the final dock, soon.
The city has also cut a boat-lane on the Windy Hills side for better lake access, removing stumps and stobs .
The mayor is currently price shopping a “water curtain” for the swimming area, to eliminate the drop/off, where the swimming area meets the deeper lake bed, then they plan to add sand to the swimming area, before that section of the lake is refilled naturally with rainwater. MLive will continue to bring updates as improvements at the lake continue, and refilling takes place.

I am so excited to see continued progress and can’t wait to see the lake returned to it’s full glory and even better. Thank you, Mayor Chase, and everyone involved in this making this project happen.
So glad for this factual update! Thank Goodness in contradicts some misinformation overheard in a public place recently!! As expected, Mayor Chase is taking care of business!
