John Allen “Bubs” Cruce
October 30th, 2024 by SubmittedJohn Allen “Bubs” Cruce, 78, of Hamburg, departed this life on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at his sister’s residence in Hamburg. Mr. Cruce was born November 7, 1945, in Drew County, he graduated from Drew Central High School, was a member of the Prairie Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Arkansas Army National Guard for six years. He worked for Burlington Industries before going into the Pulpwood Business as a sub-contractor and he owned and operated a portable sawmill for 25 years. Most recently, he worked at the Warren Sale Barn from 2016 until 2023, when his health forced him to retire. Mr. Cruce was always involved in rodeo either as a contestant or producer for most of his life. He loved riding his horses and working his mules and was an avid coon hunter. As soon as his nephew, David Ricks, learned to talk, he gave Mr. Cruce a nickname and has been lovingly called “Bubs” by his family and friends for 50 plus years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John William “Buster” and Fannie Hicks Cruce; an infant sister, Mary Lee Cruce; a sister, Claudie Cruce Sparks and two brothers-in-law, Elmer Sparks and John Ricks.
He is survived by a sister, Dian Cruce Ricks; a brother, Jerry Cruce and wife, Sharon, all of Hamburg; six nephews, David Ricks, J.R. Cruce, J.W. Cruce, Jeff Sparks, Jay Sparks and Jeremy Sparks; nine great-nephews, two great-nieces, one great-great-nephew and two great-great-nieces.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Thursday, October 31, 2024, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Chuck Hoover, Marty O’Fallon, DVM and Bro. Tony Wells officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers are Kyle Barnett, Ronny Berryman, Bobby Griffin, Dave Stritzinger, Wayne Cruce, Mike Moncrief, Andy Norris and John Harrison. Honorary pallbearers are Loy Hicks, Odell Wolfe, Jimmy Gilliam, Johnny Pierce, Craig Bowden, Katherine Bradley, Kay Casey and Beth Moncrief.
