James Slaughter Announces as Candidate for Sheriff
January 11th, 2022 by Joe BurgessJames Slaughter has announced his candidacy for the position of Drew County Sheriff. Slaughter states he is excited to bring new ideas to the Sheriff’s Department and to Drew County.
He looks forward to visiting with citizens and will work hard to keep our county a safe place to live.
Slaughter graduated from Fountain Hill High School in 1993 and has been serving in law enforcement for the past 11 years.
Slaughter’s career started in March 2011 as an auxiliary deputy for the Drew County Sheriff’s Department. He was later hired as a full-time deputy. He went to work for the Monticello Police Department in 2014. He is currently assigned to the 10th Judicial Drug Task Force.
“My focus,” according to Slaughter, “will be to enforce the law, lower the crime rate, and have an effective investigative department.”
