Hunter’s Truck Set on Fire, near Dead Man’s Curve
October 5th, 2015 by iPhoneFriday night, at approximately 6:55 pm, Drew County 911 received a call in reference to a truck on fire located on 278 E. just west of Dead Man’s Curve.
Monticello Fire Department and the Drew County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the call.
When Firefighters arrived they observed the vehicle was engulfed in flames and that the front passenger side door was open.
Shortly after arriving on scene the owner of the vehicle came out of the woods from hunting to witness his vehicle on fire. The owner advised the Drew County Criminal Investigator that he parked his 2014 GMC Sierra at that location at approximately 6:15 P.M. to go bow hunting and as he was getting secured in his stand he heard what he thought was a crash sound and some minutes later heard two gun shots.
The scene was processed by authorities and it was discovered that the victims YETI ice chest was missing from the bed of the truck and that the truck had also been damaged on the passenger side due to someone striking it with theirs.
Anyone that came through that area between the times of approximately 6:15 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. or anyone that has information on the incident is asked to contact the Drew County Sheriff’s Office at 870-367-6211.
