Harvey Reaches Win 500, Weevils Take Down Bisons 15-0
February 22nd, 2024 by UAM SportsThe Weevils traveled to Searcy, Arkansas to take on Harding University in a non-conference mid-week game on Tuesday. The Boll Weevil offense proved dominant as UAM came out with a 15-0 win over the Bisons for Head Coach John Harvey‘s 500th career win.
Coach Harvey took the helm of UAM Baseball back in 2011, claiming his first of 346 total current wins with the program against Tougaloo College. Harvey has been a head coach since 2005, starting at Henderson State University, where he led the Reddies through the 2005-2010 seasons.

Scoring Recap:
Parker Dorrance scored the first two of four runs in the second, bringing home Graham Gonzales and Chaz Poppy on an RBI double. Aidan Garrett drove in Dorrance on a single of his own and DeShaun Cordova scored the fourth run on a wild pitch.
UAM saw a pair of RBI singles from WIll Owens and Graham Gonzales to increase their lead to 6-0, followed by an RBI from Cordova. Camden Tanner crushed a grand slam over the right field wall to give Monticello an 11-run advantage.
Dorrance found a final RBI in the sixth, followed by a three-run shot from Kirk Woolf in the seventh to cap off the Weevil offense.
The game would conclude with a 15-0 victory for the Boll Weevils.
Pitching Performances
– James McCormick started on the mound, throwing 3.0 innings with no runs allowed on only one hit. McCormick had three strikeouts and two walks in his outing.
– Dylan Vail claimed the win, tossing 3.0 innings with no runs allowed on no hits. Vail also struck out three batters and saw two batters reach first.
– Trey Miller closed out the final 1.0 inning, allowing 0 runs on 1 hit with a walk.
Offensive Showcase
– Chaz Poppy – 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a walk
– Kirk Woolf – 1-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a walk
– Parker Dorrance – 3-for-4 with a double, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored
– Camden Tanner – 1-for4 with a grand slam, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a HBP
The result of the days games puts the Weevils at a 5-5, 3-0 GAC record for the 2024 season.
