Harrassing Security Salesmen bring Multiple Complaint Calls to Police

June 20th, 2013 by

013Monticello Police have been receiving multiple complaints about Vivint Security salesmen, much like they did last August, see Insecure Home Security Salesmen Invade Monticello for a surprise  interview with one of their door-knockers..

Detailed below are 3 cases, since Saturday, where MPD has been called about the orange-clad solicitors.

Saturday evening, one lady reported that a salesman (from Nevada) had tried to sell her a security system.  When she tried to close her door, he stuck his foot in the door, blocking it open.  That’s when she called the police.

Another officer reported that complaints had been made about salesman making after-dark salescall, annoying local residents.

Wednesday afternoon, a representative  from Nevada, is shown being questioned by an MPD officer around 4 pm, after the homeowner told him, to leave, during  noon visit.

It is owned by Blackstone…no wonder! However, the young men who visited last year and this year were courteous young Mormon men and very nice!

  2. leroy says:

hope you dont think its courteous to put there foot in door to block them from shutting door.that can get a person shot real fast

  3. Kendra says:

Stuck his foot in the door???? I would have broke his foot in the door

  4. betty says:

The young man who visted us was very polite and respestful. We purchase system and very happy with it. I don’t know how other salesman are I truly enjoyed talking with the one who came here.

  5. mary lou cooper says:

I got one last year was going into my house when I told him NO he wanting to talk to my hubby, I told him u better not, u might need a security, we have one that we had for 15 years, and happy with it!!!!

  6. Dave smith says:

This article is untrue and seems to be contrived upon the opinions of bias people who do not enjoy talking to door-to-door salesmen. I have talked to multiple vivint sales reps and they are always very curteous and leave as soon as I have asked them to.

  7. Billies 89 says:

The salesman that came to our door was very personable. However he was persistent and kept talking when we told him no thanks. He did put his hand on our door but was not forceful. My husband is twice as big as the salesman so I wasnt too worried!

  8. Kevin Smith says:

This article is bull!! I have talked with multiple sales rep from Vivint and they are amazing young men! I have also dealt with the poor young man in this picture and he is amazing! I highly don’t believe that he would put his foot in a door. Just like what was said last year, this is a Witch Hunt! Show me something illegal they have said or done!! We need Vivint, it’s the only panel that is wireless, 2 way over cell units, does weather alerts and has a 7 second response time. Very good system, and a very reputable company…. That might be why it is the LARGEST HOME AUTOMATION COMPANY IN NORTH AMERICA. It’s for a reason. Great system. Talk to them like humans, hear them out, you’ll be glad you did. I met with a man named Jordan, amazing young man. If you want a reputable young man, meet with him.

  9. jason says:

the guy in the pic was pretty cool when he was in warren he even dropprd back by just to say hi not sell something.to be honest I don’t think the people are used to in your face advertising but it is widely done.calling the police seems like a wastes of taxpayers money.if you asked him to leave and he didn’t leave that’s wrong but he was a real good salesman in my opinion and if u owned vivint you would love it.saying all that I still don’t like people tryin to force things down my throat.just my opinion

  10. Deb says:

Article is every bit true. The cops just left our street because these “salesmen” were harassing one of our neighbors after 10 PM!

  11. anna says:

A salesman came to my house, asking all kinds of questions. He tried to get in my house. The thing is, if I want, need and can afford a service, I will seek that company. I don’t like or trust door to door salespeople.

  12. ??? says:

love the ADT sign in the background

  13. Kevin Grant says:

I have had nothing but positive experience with Vivint. The young men selling it have been absolutely courteous and well informed about their product. Their presentation was professional and well organized. I was given references of others that had purchased it, I knew them and followed up with them. Installation was completed shortly after I signed the contract, and we were shown how to use it. Professionally done… I have now had the system for 9 months or so. It simply works as advertised. That has been my experience. Too bad others have not faired as well.

  14. d says:

i like this company and have been with them for almost 2 years with no problems.

  15. Johnna says:

This very same guy came by my house 3 times. I told him my husband was at work and would be home later because I was not interested. He said that he would come back-then asked me to come in the house and use my bathroom. No! He did come back to speak with my husband-he said no to the unit again! Then he had the nerve to ask my husband to use the bathroom again. He said No! Seemed like a way to just get in my house. He was very persistant and pushy. He also had a list of names that he had spoken to about purchasing the unit. Half of the names were spelled incorrectly. I think it was very creepy!

  16. wondering says:

I had one the other day he was nice and polite but he didnt want to take no for an answer. Finally i just had to walk away.

  17. Dragonheart says:

Everybody just trying to make a living.

  18. Sam Cooley says:

These guys came to my home in Bryant, Arkansas, too. Pushy, didn’t trust them. Showed up after dark. High-pressure sales pitch – “We’re only here today – and all your neighbors are buying it.” I also have a feeling the people posting postive things here are fakes from the company.

  19. momma says:

I had one of these guys stop by and he was a very nice Christian man, He was very polite and was not pushy or rude at all. It’s sad that others had a bad experience with other reps from the company.

  20. Taco says:

Put yourself in this situation. You have a pregnant wife at home and someone comes to your door asking all sorts of questions about you and your current security system and you have to get rude to get him to leave. Four hours later the same guy that was asking about your security system is sitting outside of your house! I will call the police all day long. I’m not saying they are bad guys, but they are INCREDIBLY stupid if they can’t understand how this could be a problem.

  21. Gametime says:

We had one to come to our house the other night right when the game was about to start, so my husband asked him to either come in and watch the game or come back some other time… Hope its not tonight…. GO HEAT!!!!!

  22. Roxanne says:

I love my system. And I’m not an agent working for the company. That’s jut a silly statement!

  23. K says:

They’re Baaaaaack! Don’t trust them. The good comments are from them!

  24. Rick Hales says:

He immediately stepped on my threshold the moment I opened my door. I took him back outside and had a nice long visit about how rude that was. He was very apologetic and we visited for over a half hour. I think he was a nice kid being given some very bad instructions on how to approach people. That tactic must be true since have heard the same from so many people at different places.

  25. Barbara Benton says:

My dad and brother also had a security system installed last weekend. The salemsmen very polite and respectful Hispanic young men. We experienced none of the negative things that were posted. They were very professional and not pushy at all.

  26. john says:

showed him my browning auto security system, He wasnt pushy and left quickly

  27. Lacey J says:

I understand that in this day and time, you can’t trust people anymore, and when someone comes to your door, some will automatically assume underlying motives are staring them in the face, but even though it seems to be the minority these days, there are still good decent folks out there, and I don’t think it’s fair to these guys to make such childish assumptions on a city-wide public site. (Which should be based on facts by the way! Although it seems to be more gossip and biased opinions.) I don’t think it’s fair to these guys because they are not from here, and most likely do not even know they are being bashed so publicly on here, therefor cannot defend themselves. I’m not saying it couldnt have happened- i don’t know because I wasn’t there, but anyone can make-up a story or rant and call the cops, but just because he was queationed, does that mean he did anything wrong? if he did, there would’ve been more than just questioning. and you better believe it woulve been on here if it did! I would also be willing to bet there is another side to that story that doesn’t match up. But we won’t hear about that side, will we. Stories like this just stir a town up and make people think the worst. I saw the story and video posted nearly a year ago, and I didn’t like it then either. I think it made him look like an idiot saying it was a scam! I bought their alarm system shortly before that, and I have been so pleased w/ it! It works just as it should and has many wonderul features! How can it be a scam?! I swear, people will find anything to gripe and argue about these days! These guys are very polite, very well spoken, and always show proper identification without asking to make me feel safe in discussing anything w/ them. I just can’t see this young man sticking his foot in the door. And btw- I live in mason hill, and many of us here have vivint systems- I can assure you im not a “company fake”. Lol what a silly statement! Really?! C’mon!

  28. carolyn says:

He came by my house and was very nice we even sit and talked for a while,i gave him a cold bottle of water and then he went on his way,no problem at all

  29. Anthony says:

He sprayed my dog with pepper spray and told me it was soap water
Then my kids were playing with the dog and we all got burned. I’m gonna kick his — when I seen him again.

  30. John says:

I want to say that I do work for this company and have been doing Direct to Home sales for them for the past 7 years. just to clear the air i am not affiliated with this team. i was workin for a different team in a different part of the united states.
I just want you guys to put yourselves in these young mans shoes:

the majority of the time these kids that go direct to home with vivint are upstanding. we all have to go through a vigorous background check before we can be employed by the company. so no one with any record will be knocking on your door.
Also most of these kids sacrifice their summer, leave their home town, in hopes to better their financial situation. most college kids would much rather stay home and hit the lake and parties instead of working all summer. and not just working but actually going door to door where a lot of times we are treated less than human.
And guess what. they put up with it. i can recall many of my reps that I’ve trained where someone was so rude and disrespectful that he walked away from the door almost in tears.

we are disrespected on a daily basis. which is fine. most of us develop a thick skin which in turn i think helps us through life in the long run. a lot of these kids genuinely do care about the safety of your family and the neighborhood. we have at least all had a phone call from a previous customer that called us and thanked us for protecting their family. or text messages from customers expressing the peace of mind the now feel. its extremely gratifying to be able to sell a product that does bring a piece of mind to a wife that is home while her husband travels.

and yes we also deal with those of you that say “the security guy knocked on my door and asked me questions about my security” doesn’t that seem a little silly? would you say it would be weird if the vacuum guy asked you questions about your vacuum? and if he is sitting outside your home there is a good chance he is waiting for his ride to take him home after a long day of rejection.

all i want to say is give these young kids some credit for what they are doing. its hard to leave home all summer and to knock doors all day and deal with people. if you don’t want the product no bid deal. tell them you’re not interested and be on your way. or even better ask them about their day and how they have been doing? they might really catch him off guard.

and those that want to say why don’t you get a different job so you dont have to go door to door. i will tell you this. in my experience doing this in the last 7 years. I’ve gotten to know the most amazing people. some who i still keep in contact with. some of the families that i have set up with an alarm years ago told me the system stopped a home invasion. or the camera was able to capture who was breaking into their car. this is all to rewarding to stop. i will take all the rude comments, rejection, rolling eyes as i introduce myself. all for those few families that are amazing and impact my life as i have been able to impact theirs.

that is it, from our side of the fence,

Vivint door to door guy :)
