Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober is one of six public officials appointed to the Arkansas Supreme Court’s Committee on Security and Emergency Preparedness.

In 2007, the Arkansas Legislature directed the Administrative Office of the Courts to help cities and counties create court security plans; provide certification and training for court security officers; and to administer grants for court security purposes.
Act 576 of 2007 also established the position of director of Security Emergency Preparedness, who is responsible for creating an emergency preparedness plan for the judicial branch and for helping local agencies and governments develop plans for their circuit and district courts. He develops security training programs for court personnel. The director makes assessments and provides ways to improve security in the courts. He also administers state-funded grants for court security improvements.
The purpose of the committee is to work with the director of Security Emergency Preparedness to ensure the safety of those who appear for court, judges and their staff, and for all other employees and members of the public who conduct business in courthouses throughout Arkansas.
The same year, the Arkansas Supreme Court created the Committee on Security and Emergency Preparedness. To date, the committee has awarded nearly $2 million in grant funds to Arkansas counties and has created online training for court security and court personnel.
