Mark Gober Announces for Re-Election to 5th Term as Sheriff
January 9th, 2012 by Joe BurgessMark Gober has announced his candidacy for re-election to a fifth term as Drew County Sheriff. “During the past seven years I have worked closely with county, local and state officials in the prevention and deterrence of crime. We have increased the level of drug detection and substantially increased the number of drug related arrests. I have enjoyed meeting many citizens of this county while performing my duties as Drew County Sheriff and look forward to the many challenges that I face daily in this office.”
During his time in office Gober graduated from the Arkansas Leader Session conducted by the F.B.I., he served as vice-chairman and chairman of the Tenth Judicial District Drug Task Force, and was also elected and still serves as a representative for the Arkansas Sheriff’s Association Southeast Quadrant as Quadrant Leader.
“I will continue working on the many goals and visions we have for improving this County. I ask that you allow me to continue my work in order to ensure that Drew County is a safe place to live and raise families. As Sheriff I require that the citizens be treated in a respectful and professional manner. As many of you have found out, I serve the people of this County and welcome your visits to our office.”
Gober was instrumental in acquiring the Drew County Mobile Command Center. This Command Center is fully equipped with communication and emergency equipment which is used in emergency situations as an operations center. This unit is not only for the use of Drew County and Monticello, but it is also available to all law enforcement in the Tenth Judicial District. Gober recommended and assisted in the implementation of the security system for the Drew County Courthouse and Monticello District Court. This system provides panic alarms for the Circuit and District Courtrooms. It also provides security cameras for the entire Drew County Courthouse. These cameras are monitored in the Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Gober has been outspoken that the County needs additional deputies in order to cut down on response time, increase patrols, and keep citizens and their property safe.
Since taking office in January of 2005 under his administration, over $120,000 in law enforcement grants have been applied for and received. These grants have been utilized for the purchase and outfitting of the Drew County Mobile Command Center, protective vests, digital radios and communications equipment, surveillance equipment and a vehicle. These digital radios improved the communication and operations of the Sheriff’s Department and are equipped with Global Positioning Systems (GPS). The Federal Communications Commission has mandated that all radio frequencies be changed from analog to digital frequencies by the year 2020. Sheriff Gober states that communications specialists have told him that Drew County Sheriff’s Department is the first law enforcement agency in the State of Arkansas to acquire these digital radios.
Sheriff Gober also is concerned about the negative impact of illegal dumping and littering. He has asked local judges to order individuals cited for littering and some misdemeanor offenses to be assigned to the “Sheriff’s Litter Crew.” This crew has picked up trash and litter in the county and city.
Prior to being elected Sheriff, Gober, 51, was employed by the Arkansas Department of Corrections for over eleven years at the Delta Regional Correctional and Jail Facility in Dermott. Being the father of four sons, Gold, Shiloh, Noah, and Kaarlo, Gober says that he knows the concerns of families. He is a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
The Sheriff is elected and serves all citizens of Drew County. Whether they live in the county or the city, Gober says that he will provide protection to all.
“It has been an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of this County. I am very thankful for the support and confidence you have given me. I look forward to serving you and continuing our work in improving Drew County. I sincerely ask for your continued support and vote in the upcoming May Democratic Primary Election. “
