Friends of the Library Gear Up for a Season of Community Support and Events
November 8th, 2024 by SubmittedThe Friends of the Library, a dedicated group of volunteers, works tirelessly each year to support the needs of Monticello’s local library. Through various fundraising activities and community events, the organization provides crucial funding to the library’s programs, including the highly anticipated summer reading program. This annual program is just one of the many ways the Friends strive to keep our library an engaging and educational resource for Monticello residents of all ages.
In addition to funding the summer reading program, the Friends of the Library sponsors various activities throughout the year. In years past, the Friends have organized or co-sponsored popular events, such as a community concert in the park featuring country music’s Ryan Harmon, poetry contests, and special guest speakers. These events foster community engagement and a love for the arts, further enhancing the library’s role as a cultural hub in Monticello.
This fall, the Friends are hosting a fundraising booth at the FUMC Women’s Holiday Bazaar. Taking place on Saturday, November 9th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, the event is an excellent opportunity for community members to support the library’s programs and initiatives while enjoying holiday shopping.
Looking forward, the Friends of the Library will kick off their annual new membership drive in January. Membership contributions play a vital role in sustaining the library’s offerings, and donations to the Friends of the Library are 501(c)(3) tax-deductible. These contributions make it possible to fund not only the summer reading program but also to place books into the hands of children year-round.
Through the hard work and generosity of Monticello residents, the Friends of the Library continue to make a lasting impact, helping to ensure that the local library remains a thriving resource and gathering place for the community.
