Former Weevil Signs to Play Pro Football
August 18th, 2018 by iPhoneThe University of Arkansas at Monticello football program saw another former standout wide-receiver sign on to play at the next level in Trevon Smith with the Memphis team of the new Alliance of American Football.
Smith, a wide-out from Houma, Louisiana, earned himself a professional contract after his solid senior season with the Weevils, where he was able to record over 510 yards receiving on 29 receptions.
He finished second on UAM in touchdown receptions as well with seven overall. He ranked third in the Great American Conference in the stat category and turned in an average of 46.4 receiving yards per game in 2017, and was selected as an Honorable Mention All-GAC pick.
Trevon will be joining a professional program based in Memphis, Tennessee where the squad will be led by head coach Mike Singletary, and will be a part of a new professional league in the AAF that features Troy Polamalu (Head of Player Relations), Hines Ward (Player Relations Executive), Jared Allen (Player Relations Executive), and Justin Tuck (Player Engagement Board of Advisors) as executive members.
“Very excited about Trevon and this opportunity for him,” Head UAM Football Coach Hud Jackson said. “This league is a really good league with great coaches and players, and I’m looking forward to watching him make his mark.”
