FORMER UAM RECEIVER INVITED TO COLTS CAMP
August 3rd, 2013 by UAM NewsFormer UAMonticello football player D.J. Stephens has been invited to the Indianapolis Colts’ training camp, according to the San Antonio Talons.
Stephens lettered two seasons at UAM and was a First Team All-Great American Conference wide receiver in 2011 after totaling 62 receptions for 689 yardswith nine touchdown catches. He finished his two-year career at UAM with 90 receptions for 1,213 yards with 12 touchdowns.
Following his career at UAM, Stephens earned a roster spot for the San Antonio Talons of the Arena Football League, where he played in one game during his rookie season. This past season, Stephens broke through for 55 receptions and 738 yards with 13 touchdown grabs. In addition to his pass receiving numbers, Stephens also ranked third in the AFL in kickoff return average with 30 returns for 650 yards with four touchdowns.
Stephens joins former teammate Eric Crocker as Boll Weevil alumni to be showcasing their skills at a NFL training camp in preparation for the 2013 season. Crocker, a defensive back at UAM for the 2010 and 2011 seasons, signed a deal with the New York Jets this past March.
