Former Rural Fire Chief, Judge Candidate & Jail Officer Facing “Abuse of Office” Charges Over $10,000+ Unaccounted Funds from Fire Dept
July 26th, 2022 by Joe BurgessA former local fire chief is facing abuse of office charges in the Drew County Circuit Court, for $10,357 in funds that do not have invoices documenting where the funds actually spent.
James Randall “Jim“ Glennon is also accused of forging minutes of a fire department board meeting that did not take place, in documents provided by the Arkansas Department of Legislative Audit.
This review was conducted primarily for the period January 1, 2016 through February 4, 2020, including
records, bank statements, invoices and interviews with staff/board members. Glennon retired from the fire department in 2019.
Court documents filed by the prosecuting attorney state that on about February 4, 2020, and during the preceding 5 years, as a public servant and with the purpose of benefitting himself, Glennon did, in a continuing course of conduct, commit unauthorized acts for transactions purporting to be in acts of his office, which offense is punishable as a Class C felony by imprisonment of 3-10 years and a fine up to $10,000.
Prior to his retirement, Glennon served as compliance officer for the county jail, and also ran unsuccessfully for county judge in 2012.
For the record, the Drew County Jail has been through a successful audit from the Legislative Audit commission each year, without any noticeable violations. This implies that nothing inappropriate took place within that agency.
