Former City Council Member & Candidate for Mayor Charged with Harrassing UAM Students
July 10th, 2015 by iPhoneA former city council member, who was also a candidate for the mayor’s position, will be in District Court, next week, on charges stemming from “harrassing” actions, statements, and texts, that he allegedly made or sent to 2 female UAM students.
Thomas “Sonny” Thornhill, stood before District Judge Sara Hartness, recently on charges of 3rd degree assault and harassing communications, based on events that occurred between summer of 2014 and February, 2015, according to police reports.
Both students, 10 years apart in age, also requested “no contact orders” be placed on Thornhill.
During his interview, Thornhill admitted that he was “inappropriate” with one of the victims, but could not remember details about interaction with the other student.
Hartness stepped down from hearing the case, due to a potential conflict of interest, stemming from one of Thornhill’s relatives.
The case is scheduled for Thursday in Drew County District Court, and will likely be heard by Bradley County Judge Bruce Anderson.
