Forest Fire Near Old Dermott Road / Old Troy Road Area

April 4th, 2011 by

Earlier this afternoon, the Monticello Fire Dept. and Ark. Forestry Commission spent several hours battling  a large forest fire, located near Drew 22 Lane and Old Deene Road, just off of Old Dermott Road.

The blaze origionally began near Old Troy Road.

It has been estimated that approximately 80 acres of forest was damaged by the fire, as it was fanned by winds with gusts up to around 20 mph.

4 trucks, 2 dozers, and at least 3 planes were used in the battle against the raging fire.

The Arkansas Foresty Commision remained on the scene at 5 pm, still dropping water on the “hot spots” and running plows to keep the blaze contained.

You can find information on burn bans in place across the state and the counties whose county judges have currently issued burn bans at this website:

Thank You to The Monticello Fire Dept and The Arkansas Forestry Commission for your quick response to the fire close to our homes on Old Deane Road.

Thank you for your hard work to save our pine forest and our homes.

    James and Kathy Berry

  3. Betty and Wayne Evans says:

Thank you to the members of the Monticello Fire Department and AFC that worked so hard today to contain and distinguish a fire in the Old Dean Road area that threatened our home. Members of the fire department came to our home and waited and watched with us until the danger had passed. It is nice to know that they know we live back in the middle of the woods. Thanks, also, to the brave pilots who flew in dangerous windy conditions to drop water on the fire. We are fortunate in Drew County to have such brave and selfless folks who work to keep us all safe.

    Wayne and Betty Evans

  4. T Lane Keeling says:

Thanks 2 all the firefighters, Monticello Fire Dept. Ark Forestry Commission, pilots, 4 containing and stopping the fires and preventing home and property loss. God Bless you all! Special thanks to blessings to all concerned neighbors and special friends for your help also.

    T. Lane Keeling

  5. Jim says:

Thanks to all the fire fighters! We were concerned. Heavy smoke was all in our backyard. Whoever set this fire near Old Dermott Road/Old Deene Road should be criminally charged. Our livestock was terrified! We filled every bucket with water and set by the now full swimming pool. Had two water hoses standing ready. Thankfully the fire fighters did their job well and we did not have to help!

  6. Catherine says:

I also am so thankful for our brave firefighters. I would love to see the fire department along with the police department get the new facilities they really deserve! Let’s get things moving to show our appreciation!
