Flu & Local Schools

Several pharmacies and clinics still offer flu shots, which you may want to consider. if you haven’t had one yet.
The Arkansas Department of Education posts on their website school absentee rates by county statewide. each week. Drew County currently ranks in the 5% range for absenteeism. This 5% absenteeism includes absences for any reason, not just the flu.
Since Monticello and Drew Central schools had flu shots and mist, last October, courtesy of the Health Dept., the effects of the flu have been greatly reduced in our local schools.
Monticello schools report only an occasional case of the flu.
Drew Central reports that the flu does have a small effect on their absentee rates; but noted that students who have had the shots, but still get the flu, have a much milder cases, lower fever, and shorter absences.
Usually the flu hits multiple family members
One nurse advised parents , “If a child has a fever, with a temperature over 100, please do not send a sick child to school.”
