Fire Reported at County Jail

Around 9:15 Thursday night, a fire was reported at the Drew County Detention Facility.
Monticello Fire Department, Monticello Police Department, Drew County Sheriff Department, and Arkansas State Troopers quickly responded, SEEMS and MASI also arrived, as a safety precaution.
The jails’ 31 detainees were safely transferred to an inside, open air exercise yard, during the fire.
One theory being considered for the cause of the blaze is that it was possibly set by a detainee.
According to sources, no one was injured, although one person was checked out by medical personnel.
The facility had returned to normal operation by early Friday morning.
