Fire Fatality at Hyatt & Jackson Street
November 5th, 2021 by Joe BurgessMinutes before midnight, Wednesday night, Monticello Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to a mobile home fire at 330 S. Hyatt Street.
The first to arrive at the scene was the patrol sergeant, who reported the structure was fully engulfed in flames, upon his arrival.
He reported speaking to 2 females, who were leaving the area, but told him they had seen the fire, reported it, then knock on the wall and broke a window, unsuccessfully trying to discern if anyone was home.
Firefighters quickly responded and had the blaze almost out, within 15 minutes, before looking through the remains of the home, for victims.
A short time later, law enforcement was notified that the body of a female was found deceased, inside.
The victim was identified as 25 year old Miranda Thomas of Monticello who was confirmed deceased at the scene by the coroner.
