Fire Destroys Sadie Johnson Community Center – Saturday- Several Photos
October 4th, 2010 by Joe BurgessA fire was reported at the Sadie Johnson Community Center in Jordan Park around 5 o’clock Saturday afternoon.
The Monticello Fire Dept. responded, but flames had already burned through the north rear wall and roof of the building when they arrived.
The fire seems to have started in the north end of the building, which was unoccupied, and was noticed by someone in the south end of the building, who was preparing for a birthday party.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.

Final two memories of the Sadie Johnson building; fighting with words to get a new fire station built WERE IT BELONGS (W.C. Whaley) then fighting fatigue and heat exaustion to try to save the Sadie Johnson building, ehen it was burning.
that is such a loss to the comunity, it was a great location with good parking to hold all kinds of events, a local preschool, and it was a piece of history dedicated to a special person, to all those displaced my heart goes out to you. To the brave fire fighters who worked so hard to save it, thankyou and thank God no one was hurt, because that was a bad bad fire.
thanks to kenny cox and larry smith jr for bringing us water when we could not take a break to get some. MPD goes above and beyond to help whenever possible. Thanks guys.
