Fire Dept. Training with Propane Tanks

April 24th, 2012 by

The Monticello Fire Department held a training exercise for extinguishing LP gas fires at the Drew County Fairgrounds, Saturday.

Southern LP Gas Company donated 400 gallons of gas to be burned in the exercise.

At least 5 area fire departments took part in the training session, which practiced extinguishing propane fires on tanks and piping fixtures.

i hope this set of videos helps the public realise just how much danger our guys face when the pager goes off. and that the public understands there is one big differance in these training exercises and when a real call comes in, in a real event they are fighting fire and possible explosions risking their life to save another…MFD YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

  2. Tracey Webb says:

As I was ordering pictures of my children from Shelley Smith’s website this a.m. I saw some pictures she had taken at this training exercise. It made me really think what our firemen go through day by day with their job. View these photos at Shelleysmithphotography.com I think you will see the same as I did with what they face daily being a fire fighter. Thank you Monticello Fire Department for the dedication you have for your job.

  3. Courtney says:

I just want to Thank Shelley Smith for coming out and taking pictures! They were awesome. If anyone would like to order any of the pictures you can visit her website at ShelleySmithPhotography.com! I’m glad you were able to get the pictures you did even though you had a hard time getting those… But they turned out amazing!

  4. Enjoyed working out there! I think I need a job with Monticello Live so I can have a press pass & gain better access, haha!
