Fair Board & University Agree on 25 Year Lease Agreement – Hope to Re-build Livestock Barn in time for September County Fair
April 14th, 2012 by Joe BurgessAs the Drew County fair and livestock show continues to recover from the damage caused by a tornado in May of 2009, the fair board and UAM, actually the University of Arkansas system, have agreed to terms oa a 25 year lease agreement on the fairgrounds.
This agreement clears the way to meet federal guidelines to receive FEMA funds, designated last year, to re-build the livestock barn, that was destroyed in the May, 2009 tornado.
Construction is expected to begin soon; meaning there is hope that the new building will be in use for the 2012 Drew County Fair & Livestock Show, scheduled for September 17-22. The fair pageants will be held the week before the fair.
The new structure is expected to have an open-air auditorum, with a soundstage and backdrop wall on the west end. The livestock area will be on the east end, where it was before.
The new barn will be built on the existing slab in the same area as the old one.
