April 23rd, 2015 by iPhoneA Drew County man was found guilty of 2 counts of harassing communications and a count of harassment, in Circuit Court, Wednesday, in his appeal of an earlier District Court case.
Jim Hall was found guilty by a jury of 4 men and 8 women, of harassing communications to his former pastor and a local attorney, (who represented his ex-wife in their divorce and child custody hearings ) for multiple voicemails he left on their phones.
Hall was also found guilty of harassment of his ex-wife. Facebook posts, that he is accused of making, were included in this charge.
Rev. Bobby Spencer and Paul Keith testified in Wednesday’s jury trial, as the recordings were played, for the jury to hear.
Hall was sentenced to a year in the county jail, with all but 90 days suspended.
The remainder of the sentence will be suspended, based on the ruling of court, as long as Hall doesn’t contact the victims.
After the jury left, Hall was held in contempt of court by Circuit Judge Sam Pope, for testimony that he stated in front of the jury that had earlier been disqualified from the case.
In a pre-trial hearing, Hall and his attorney were instructed not to mention the alleged threats made against Hall, earlier this year, because they were ruled it relevant to this case which began in 2012.
During his testimony, Hall mentioned the topic in front of the jury, and was quickly reprimanded by the judge, according to reports. After the trial, was sentenced to five days in county jail on contempt of court charges, for disobeying the judges earlier order.
It was stated that Hall’s attorney Omar Greene of Little Rock, plans to file an appeal of the case to a higher court.
Hall was ordered to turn himself in to the Drew County Jail, Monday morning, unless he pays a $2,500 cash appeal bond.
