Arkansas Business news magazine named Drew Memorial Hospital the Small Hospital of the Year at their annual Health Care Heroes luncheon in Little Rock. According to an article by Arkansas Business publisher Mitch Bettis earlier this month, the Health Care Heroes program “honor[s] individuals, companies and organizations that are making a significant impact on the quality of health care in Arkansas.” The other finalists in the Small Hospital category were CHI St. Vincent – Morrilton, NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro, and Ouachita County Medical Center in Camden. “We have an award-winning team at Drew Memorial, and I look forward to bringing this back to them,” said CEO Scott Barrilleaux as he accepted the award.
Emcee Lance Turner of Arkansas Business shared some of the activities at DMH from the past year which cemented its place as a finalist. The hospital’s range of services rivals that of any health care system in the state, with many service lines growing. The Emergency Department received the UAMS-ARSAVES best door-to-needle time in the state for the month of June for quick treatment of stroke patients. And, last winter, the Drew County community approved a sales tax designation that will benefit the financing of the hospital’s 51,000 sq. ft. expansion project, which broke ground in September.
The recognition for Arkansas Business’ Small Hospital of the Year comes just months after DMH was named by National Research Corporation as the nation’s Most Improved Small Hospital, a designation based on significant gains in “overall hospital rating” scores assigned by patients. Further information on the Health Care Heroes awards luncheon can be found at ArkansasBusiness.com and in the November 28 issue of Arkansas Business.
Drew Memorial Hospital is a non-profit, county-owned acute-care facility that serves a population of 200,000 in Southeast Arkansas.
