Drew Central Students Viewed The Hobbit Movie
December 18th, 2012 by Drew Central SchoolsDrew Central Fourth Graders in Eva Arrington’s class have read the children’s classic The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. It was the fantasy epic of our time. Students and their parents met at the theater and viewed the movie as a group.
Students learned research skills when their curiosity led them to discovering the meaning and origin of runes. The students completed an in depth literature study using the novel and viewed the movie as a celebration. Upon returning to school, students wrote an opinion piece on which they liked best, the novel or the movie.

Austin and Dylan had a wonderful time!!!! Austin is still talking about it!
Although I don’t have any children and my two cents probably doesn’t amount to much, I would like to caution parents that Tolkien may seem harmless but his writings are actually strongly steeped in the occult and mysticism. The very fact that these fourth-grade children were discovering and researching the origin of runes is very troubling to me. These are impressionable young minds and if the Bible can’t be taught in school, I don’t believe this should be either because runes are often used in several occult rituals and false religions.
