Drew Central School Board – Teacher of the Year, Enrollment Stats
November 9th, 2012 by Stephanie HartonThe Drew Central school board had its scheduled monthly meeting Thursday, November 08, 2012. Topics on the agenda included recognition of Drew Central Teacher of the Year, the red brick building, and enrollment of students at Drew Central and other southeast Arkansas schools.
Jennifer Knowles, Drew Central Elementary teacher, was recognized as Drew Central Teacher of the Year. A presentation was given acknowledging her achievements along with a plaque to commemorate the occasion. Laura Whitaker and Jason Cater, school board members, praised Ms. Knowles on the dedication she has to her students.
The final phase of the red brick building removal is coming to an end. A bid was accepted on the removal of the concrete in October, and this project was completed late last week. Gravel will be placed in the holes and when the area has healed over, grass seeds will be applied to avoid erosion.
The superintendent gave a comparison on the enrollment of southeast Arkansas schools. He stated Drew Central enrollment for K-12 was unchanged from last year at 941. The remaining 14 schools from the area showed an increase in kindergarten students, but the total enrollment fell by 62 students.
The next school board meeting is set for December 13.
Congratulations, Jennifer!
