Drew Central School Board Calls Meeting
September 12th, 2012 by Caleb BurgerThe Drew Central School called to order a special board meeting Sept. 6 to discuss the athletic budget, purchasing of a school bus and board member training among a few other items.
The athletic budget totals $248,100 including $148,440 allocated to salaries. The board approved the budget. The board approved the budget without question and will now submit it to the state with the deadline fast approaching. Interim Superintendent Mike Johnston said, “The state will not receive the budget any later than Sept. 15.”
The board received possible changes to the Student Handbook Policies as well, which will receive a final vote at the next board meeting. The Standard Review officer that joined the State Department in a visit to Drew Central examined the handbook and recommended certain changes that need to take place.
Drew Central is scheduled for standard review next year, which occurs every three to four years. The changes included a alteration to the absentee policy and a policy regarding students returning the handbook. The board will vote on these changes and others to make them official at the next meeting.
Drew Central plans to purchase a used school bus in the near future as well. The board approved the purchase and the superintendent will now pursue purchasing a $6,700 bus and also to bid on a Monticello School bus. The budget for purchasing the bus or buses is set at $10,000, so Drew Central will end up with at least one more bus.
Considering this board meeting was called abruptly, the school board voted on moving the regular school board meeting to Sept. 20 rather than Sept. 13. The meeting will take place at its regular time of 7:00 p.m.
