Drew Central 4th Graders Took Part In Multiplication Project
June 2nd, 2016 by Drew Central SchoolsDrew Central fourth graders were Disney bound as part of a multi-digit multiplication project. This real-world scenario asked students to make choices and plan a seven day family trip to the most magical place on Earth, Disney World in Orlando, Florida!
To set the stage for the project, students listened to guest speaker, Dawn Campagna, share the things she had considered when she planned her trip to Disney last December. In addition, she shared pictures of her trip and showed souvenirs. Fourth graders were asked to determine the cost of gas for a round trip, food, hotel rooms, souvenirs, and tickets.
Their budget was $6,000. Students researched costs of various hotels, costs of tickets, costs of meals, etc. using Chromebooks. Last, it was crunching numbers time! Students calculated the total cost of their trips and determined if they were over or under budget making adjustments as needed.
