Dr. Patricia Mays Seeks to become Arkansas Representative for District 10

February 18th, 2014 by

maysMonticello native Patricia (Ferrell) Mays has announced that she will be a candidate for the Arkansas House of Representatives District 10 in the 2014 general election on the Republican ticket.

“I decided to run for House of Representatives because there is a need for legislators who will pass laws that align with the values of the citizens they represent. I believe that our representatives should be aware of the current issues, gather all the relevant facts, solicit input from all of their constituents then make the best decision that they can based on the available information,” Mays said.

Diana Harton, Chairman of the Drew County Republicans states “I am thrilled to see a candidate with the qualifications and passion for our part of the state that Dr. Patricia Mays brings to this race. Two of her greatest strengths are her love for people, and her desire to see people rise up out of poverty and live the American Dream. The people of Southeast Arkansas could not pick a more qualified person to represent them in the Arkansas House of Representatives.

Mays graduated from Monticello High School, earned a bachelor of science and a master of science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and earned the Ph.D. in Engineering at Texas A&M University. Mays is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and a licensed Professional Engineer.

Mays is married and is the mother of three children. Mays has professional work experience as a manufacturing engineer, quality engineer, quality manager and director of quality assurance and regulatory affairs, working in the defense contracting, semiconductor equipment, and medical devices industries. Mays is recognized as a Certified Quality Auditor and Certified Manager of Quality and Organizational Excellence by the American Society for Quality.

Mays is the founder of South Arkansas Growth Organization, a nonprofit community development corporation working to improve health, education, business, and housing in the 19 counties in the southern part of the state; and Kallion Learning Company Monticello, an innovative nonprofit K-12 private school. “I am passionate about building the economies and communities of south Arkansas, and I believe the keys are better education and the creation and strengthening of small businesses,” said Mays.

Mays is a resident of Drew County, which is at the southern tip of District 10. This district includes parts of Drew, Lincoln, Cleveland, Grant and Jefferson counties. Mays, who is running as a Republican, does not have an announced opponent in the primary election in May, but will face a Democrat challenger in the general election in November 2014.

“We as citizens have lost some of our rights and freedoms and are in danger of losing others. We can make our state and our country great again, but we must increase knowledge among all of our citizens and make sure that every eligible person votes for representatives who support his or her values,” said Mays. “I am running as a Republican because the values of the Republican party most closely match my own, including the power of faith in God, the sanctity of life, individual responsibility and initiative, individual freedom, limited government, lower taxes, strong national defense, the personal right to own and bear arms, and the equal and just enforcement of the law. I urge each voter to closely examine his or her heart and vote with a good conscience for the person who will best represent him or her and who will work hard to help Arkansas achieve its true potential.”
