Dr. Marsha Clayton Is New Dean Of The UAM School Of Business

Dr. Marsha Clayton, a long-time member of the faculty at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has been named dean of the UAM School of Business, according to Dr. Peggy Doss, vice chancellor for academic affairs.
Clayton came to UAM in 1992 as an assistant professor of economics, was promoted to associate professor in 1998, and in 1999 added the duties of director of the Center for Economic Education in UAM’s School of Business.
Clayton replaces Dr. Lou James, who recently announced his retirement after serving as dean since 2003.
“Dr. Clayton has been a valued member of our faculty for many years and is uniquely qualified to lead the School of Business,” said Doss. “Her familiarity with both the university and the School of Business and her background as a distinguished member of our faculty made her the ideal choice for this important position.”
Clayton holds three degrees in economics; a bachelor of science degree from Arkansas State University and both an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi. She has held positions as a graduate teaching assistant at Mississippi, as an instructor at the Mississippi Industrial College, and as an acting assistant professor at Austin Peay State University. In 1988, she joined the faculty at Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont, moved to Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio in 1990 as an instructor and became an acting assistant professor at Francis Marion College in Florence, S.C., in 1991.
She joined the UAM faculty in 1992, primarily teaching courses in economics. As director of the UAM Center for Economic Education, she has led numerous workshops for pre-kindergarten through high school educators in basic economic principles and to promote economic education in the K-12 curriculum as well as provide professional development for K-12 educators. The Center is affiliated with Economics Arkansas/Arkansas Council on Economic Education and the Council on Economic Education.
