Double Big-Rig Wrecks
May 30th, 2014 by iPhone
Twice this week, (empty) log trucks have been forced to take the ditch, to avoid colliding with smaller vehicles in front of them, who stopped quickly with no turn signals.
The top photo, where the big-rig struck a concrete driveway, took place Thursday afternoon around 5:30, near the Selma store on HWY 278 East.
The other accident, shown here, occurred Tuesday around 5 PM, at the intersection of Jefferson and N. Gabbert Streets.
No one was injured in either accident.

Until more drivers understand that you really are supposed to STOP at stop signs, use turn signals, dim your lights and obey speed limits, accidents will continue to happen. The general lack of regard for other drivers is epidemic and causes wrecks.
Maybe the big rig drivers need to back off some. I know they are in a hurry but many of them ride on the bumpers of the vehicles in front of them. They make me uneasy!!!
People need to understand that theses big rigs cannot stop on a dime.
This is to Jeff, the accident was not at the intersection of Jefferson and N. Gabbert- Joe did not put the facts. A parent was pulling out of Jellybean daycare/preschool when the log truck was driving way to fast and topped the hill and almost hit the parent and child that was leaving. Big Rigs need to learn to slow down and the city needs to put up school zone signs and enforce slower traffic in this area since there is a hill and you can not see everything coming when you are pulling out.
Glad no one was injured. I agree that drivers need to be more aware of what is going on around them, take precautionary measures to let other vehicles know what they are doing. However, big rigs also need to slow down! I live on North Gabbert and big rigs travel very fast, exceeding the 35 and 30mph zone greatly! I have never witnessed MPD enforcing speed limits in this area.
The one that happened on 278 was right in front of Jelly Bean Junction m 18 wheelers fly through that road all day. I’m a parent of a child that goes there and was there when theaaccident happened. That truck was flying and the the vehicle just left the school. We have asked and asked the city to put school ahead signs up and down that road. Is it going to take a child getting hurt or worse a death before they put signs up. And no it is not just big rigs it is cars as well. Slow down people.
I Saw a car not stop at the corner of Mccloy and Main in front of my office with a big Rig already going across and the car just shot across in front. I would think more of my life crossing in front of a truck to try to beat one across an intersection. This truck sat down on its horn, never fazed the driver of the car. Jeff is right, you better watch out for the other driver because they are sure not watching out for you.
I agree with Jeff. However, it could be that the log trucks were following too close. I am not sure that log trucks should be allowed on city streets (Jackson & Gabbert) loaded or not.
