Desha/Drew Cattlemen’s Association Meeting Notes
October 6th, 2017 by AJ HuffmanDr. Kelly Bryant, Dean of UAM Agriculture, announced this year’s recipients of Desha/Drew Cattlemen’s Agri Scholarships.
Those students were Hunter Hayes-majoring in AG Business, Courtney Leggett-majoring in Pre-Vet and Lauren Derryberry-majoring in Pre-Vet. Dr. Bryant also announced UAM’s Beef/Forage Field Day, Tuesday, October 24, 2017. The topics will be Replacement Heifer Evaluation, Shade Tree Benefits for Cattle, Fall Armyworms, and Residual Feed Intake. Registration will begin at 4:30p.m. and the program will begin at 5:00p.m.
Nita Carpenter announced that the organization’s float for the Drew County Fair Parade was awarded 1st place in its category. The membership wants to thank Nita, Dale, the Scholarship recipients, and those who rode the float. Glynn Gibson reported that the Drew County Fair’s Premium Auction, to which the D/D Cattlemen contributed, was a success. Eighteen 4-H and FFA exhibitors shared a total of around $3,400. Gibson also announced AFGC Fall Forage Conference and Forage Tour will be Friday, November 3rd at 9:00a.m. at Pauline Whitaker Arena, Fayetteville, AR. The meeting concluded with a wonderful fish dinner provided by Commercial Bank. Thank you Commercial Bank for all your support.
