Desha/Drew Cattlemen’s Association August Meeting Notes
September 6th, 2022 by Club OfficerDuring the August meeting of the Desha Drew Cattlemen’s Association the Hope Livestock Auction provided a meal of roast beef sandwiches, beans, and slaw. Dessert was provided by the membership and the meal was blessed by President Brett Kendig.
This month was highlighted by the presentation of 15 scholarships in the amount of $500.00 each. The recipients were: James Cruce, Lucy Pugh, Jaci Gibson, Haley Gibson, Ryan Barnard, Kyla Wright, Madison Taunton, Chelsea Cox, Megan Stephens, Trenton Eubanks, Kody Boatright, Connor Gossman, Rayvin Callaway, Codie Jo Tupa, and Timothy Jones. After the scholarships were awarded Rayvin Callaway and Codie Jo Tupa stood up and shared their personal testimonies as to how the scholarship would benefit them!
Dr. Rocky Lindsey was our guest speaker. He gave an update on the Ag Building renovations. Informing us that they are almost complete, and that we would be able to start meeting once again in the Ag building. Rocky also discussed the continued advancement of the Ag Department’s Pre-Vet program, Plant & Soil Science, Animal Science, and general Ag. Maribel Nelson, DVM and Lonnie Davis, plant and soil Science instructor were introduced as new faculty. Both are anxious to join the UAM Ag Department and look forward to teaching this fall.
Rocky reported that “more job offers were made to UAM Ag students than there were available students to fill the positions” this past year. He informed us of how instrumental Chancellor Peggy Doss has been in the revamp of the Ag department. Everyone is super excited with the direction that the program is headed in.
There were 73 people in attendance for our August meeting. We were blessed to have that many folks. We encouraged all who attended to consider joining the Cattlemen’s and joining us at future meetings.
