Desert Storm Vet Visits Monticello on Cross-state Run, Carrying Flag.
July 13th, 2020 by Joe BurgessA true patriot, US Army Veteran, Nate Thomas, made is way through Monticello on Saturday.
Thomas, a Lee county native who served in Desert Storm, stated that he runs every year on the 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Veteran’s Day to show support to our veterans and troops.
When the coronavirus pandemic began in March, Thomas was at a town hall meeting and wondered what he could do to support and uplift his community and those around him. “I enjoy running and it was placed on my heart to pick her up and show love all over the state” said Thomas, referring to Old Glory.
Thomas places the flag on his left shoulder while he is running. Then, he salutes every passing vehicle. “I start running and Ol Glory goes up. I hear people honking, waving, applauding, and I just salute them.”
What is his reason and purpose for doing this? “I just want to show love to everyone. Love always wins over hate. People need to see positivity. We
can’t change history. It is done. What we can do is show love and positivity and change the world today and make a better tomorrow for our children and grandchildren. This old flag has seen a lot in her day, but she keeps on flying.”
Thomas’s next stop was to be Fort Smith. He plans to visit every city he can all around the state spreading love, unity, and positivity to Arkansans.
Nate Thomas, you are a true patriot and Monticello salutes you! Thank you, sir, for your service.
