Democratic Committee to Select Alderman at June 13 Meeting
May 11th, 2016 by iPhoneMonday evening, the Drew County Democratic Party met at the courthouse, to discuss filling the vacant seat on Monticello City Council, which was left by the recent death of alderman Dr. Tim Chase.
The city council appointed Dr. Chase’s widow, Paige Chase to complete the current term, through December 31.
Since Dr. Chase had won the 2017–2018 term for the position, before his passing, the Democratic committee, according to the interpretation of state law, is responsible for filling that position.
After discussion, it was agreed that anyone who is interested in serving in that capacity should contact committee chairman (former Drew County Judge) Damon Lampkin, for more information. The deadline to do so will be June 10.
On June 13, there will be a public meeting at the courthouse, including discussion, presentation by potential candidates for consideration, and a decision made by the Democratic committee, as to who will serve the remaining two years all of the term.
The only potential candidate that has expressed interest, at this point, is Ms. Paige Chase.
After the meeting, Mayor Zack Tucker commented that he felt the party’s decision to host open nominations was the right choice
