Defense Opening Statement Blames Deputy’s Death on the Decision to Pursue

Opening statements began at 12:45. The prosecution outlined the planned direction of their case, then the defense had their opportunity.
Defense attourney Humphrey discussed “causation” emphasizing that Vincent’s car did not collide with the Deputy’s car. He continued to point out that Deputy Braden’s torso didn’t show marks from a seatbelt, and that Braden died because he lost control of his vehicle.
The first witness took the stand at 1:30.
