Defendant Testifies “Self Defense” in Shooting
October 24th, 2014 by iPhoneAt 3:20, the defendant Jimmy Gibson, a life-long friend of the girl’s family, took the stand in his own defense.
Gibson testified the he had been told that the former sex offender had been harassing the girl that day, and they had asked him to stay with them, as a precaution. When he saw the girl go toward the red SUV, he followed, going to the driver’s door.
When he heard her scream, “gun,” he saw a pistol in the passengers hand. Then the car pulled up, then stopped. When it stopped, he said he feared for his life (and hers), so he fired the shotgun.
At 3:45, the defense rested their case.
After jury instruction, closing arguments began.
The case went to the jury at 4:30.
