Defendant Testifies In Murder Trial – Defense Rests
September 13th, 2018 by iPhoneContinuing from earlier Report;
The deceased’s girlfriend told the court that when she attempted to call an ambulance, Terry said something like, “B!+<#, you better not do that.”
The pair then grabbed a gray / black backpack, containing around a pound of marijuana, and fled the scene.
At 2:05, after returning from a brief recess, the defendant, Jerrell Terry, took the stand. His attorney began his testimony by asking about his criminal past, which included felony convictions for thefts and drugs.
He then told the jury that he was there, but didn’t know that Figures was going to rob and/or kill Sheets.
Terry told the court that the gun he had didn’t have a clip in it. Prosecutor Frank Spain pointed out that he had told police that Figures had “thrown the clips out the window near the soccer field.” Terry said he had misspoke.
Terry, who was shot in the ankle, admitted that he had taken a portion of the weed to sell.
Spain repeatedly pointed out that if Terry felt in danger of Figures, that he had multiple chances to escape.
Around 2:40, the defense rested.
The jury took a recess, while the court discussed the upcoming jury instructions.
They returned at 3:05.
