Defendant Takes the Stand to Testify – 11:30 Update
November 14th, 2013 by iPhoneThe defendant, 31 year old Bryant Childs took the stand to testify on his own behalf.
“When I came around the curve, I saw the train and a log truck and some vehicles stopped. I pumped the brakes, but the truck didn’t slow down. All I could think about was the logs. I panicked, and I jumped,”
Childs told his attorney that he had told Kelly and Sons , the owner of the truck, about the problems with the brakes and tires.
“I jumped out, right by the logs, and don’t remember anything else.”
He stated that his dad told him about the fatality six days later.
Looking back, Childs told Rolfe that if he had to do it again, “I would’ve rode it out. “
