DCSO Reports Shooting Arrest
December 12th, 2013 by Joe BurgessOn December 2, 2013, a 20 year old Warren resident came to the Drew County Sheriff’s Office, spoke to Sheriff Mark Gober and reported that the night before at a location on the Old Warren Rd. he had been shot at multiple times.
During Lt. Tim Nichols’ investigation it was learned the complaintant of Warren reported that he was supposed to meet two females on a gravel road in the Old Warren Rd. area in the late night hours of December 1, 2013. When he arrived a female got into his vehicle and shortly after doing so three male subjects exited her vehicle displaying guns and began shooting. Smith tried to avoid the threat and while in the process his vehicle got stuck in the ditch. He reported that he then noticed two of the suspects approaching his vehicle and he then grabbed his 22 rifle and began to return fire. The suspects then ran back to their vehicle and left the scene leaving behind the female (17) who is believed to have set the victim up. The female suspect was later picked up down the road by the other suspects.
Evidence has been collected and sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab. Devontrius Chaffin, age 17 of Monticello, was arrested and certified as an adult, on December 10th in connection with the case and has since bonded out. More arrest are pending at this time.
Other suspects are Sam Hopkins III (19) of Monticello and Dakota Hawkins (18) of Monticello.
