DC’s Edmonds Becomes President of the State School Counselor Association
July 29th, 2014 by Joe BurgessThe gavel of the Arkansas School Counselor Association has officially passed to the new state president, Cathy Edmonds, the Drew Central High School counselor.
She has just completed her 30th year in education, all at Drew Central. Ms. Edmonds just returned from Orlando, Florida where she attended the American School Counselor Association National Conference. While there she also participated in the delegate assembly representing Arkansas.
Cathy’s theme for the year will be “It All Starts With Us”. School counselors work with students, teachers, administrators, and the community which is a unique position in school districts. School counselors are the glue that holds everyone together.
ArSCA lobbies for school counselors and provides professional development geared specifically to school counselors throughout the year and at the summer conference. ArSCA also provides scholarships to teachers getting school counseling degrees, and is a supporter of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Ms. Edmonds stated she was excited about taking over her new position which in the end will have been a four year commitment; serving as president elect elect, president elect, president and pasted president. She will not only lead the ArSCA board but will serve on the Arkansas Counseling Association Board and will be a voting delegate to the American School Counselor Association Board.
