DCES’s Updated Safety & Security Program Starts Today
February 13th, 2013 by Joe Burgess“Today is the first day for our new safety policy! Letters went home to parents to let them know that we are implementing two main policies.
1. Beginning Wednesday, February 13, 2013, all outside doors to the elementary school will be locked down all day. The only entrance that will not be locked will be the main entrance near the office of the elementary 1-4 building that faces the large parking lot.
2. Parents/guardians and other visitors will be required to sign in at the main office before picking up their child, going to the classroom, or coming to eat lunch with their child. This part of the policy has been in effect for some time, but many have not followed it closely. Beginning Wednesday, February 13, 2013, this policy will be strictly enforced. Please don’t be offended if a teacher or an aide asks you if you have signed in at the office when you don’t have on a visitor pass with a name and date on it.
This may be a little inconvenient at first, but I think it is important for the safety of our students, teachers and staff! We may not be able to prevent everything that could happen, but we can at least try to provide as much security as possible!
DCES has also made badges for the substitutes to wear since many are new to our school. They should be wearing them and it says ‘Drew Central Elementary Substitute” on it.
Thanks for your help with this and please be patient!
