DC “Shooter Drill” Shows Strengths & Weaknesses

At 1 pm, Friday afternoon, a pre-planned ” active shooter” tok place at Drew Central Middle School.
A “deranged gunman,” played by DC’s math facilitator, Cindy Luper, entered the school office, shooting the principal and office assistant.
As the drill continued, the shooter left the office to enter the hallway, searching for students. Another member of the office staff paged out “lock down,” and all of the rooms were secured for protection.
Monticello police officers quickly arrived, began searching the building, isolated the suspect, and returnef the school back to safety.
The building was then eacuolated, as officers performed a secondary search for other potential suspects, that may have been involved.
The drill is considered to have been educational, according to one of its planners., because it pointed to the school strengths, and also potential weaknesses.
