DC Gearheads Qualify For Worlds In VEX Robotics
March 13th, 2019 by Drew Central Schools
On Saturday, March 9, 2019, the DC Gearheads competed at the STATE Vex Robotics Championships. They did well in the morning qualification rounds by going 6-1 for the day. This put the Gearheads in 4th place at state going into the elimination rounds. After much deliberation, the DC Gearheads chose Monticello OEC Robotics team to be an alliance partner! This meant that Drew County could possibly be represented by two teams at the World’s Vex Robotics Tournament in Louisville, KY if the alliance worked together.
Indeed it did, the DC/Mo alliance stormed through the play of 16, the quarterfinals, and semi-finals! This alliance earned a spot in the finals of the state tournament! They did well but fell to the Jonesboro/Russellville alliance. But, out of 480 Arkansas Vex teams, earning a spot in the finals qualified them for a trip to the World’s Championship April 24-27, 2019.
Drew Central and Monticello are two of only six Vex VRC high school teams from Arkansas who earned a spot for Worlds.
