DC 4th Graders Learn About Venus Flytrap Plant
October 24th, 2017 by Drew Central SchoolsDrew Central fourth graders act out the trapping behavior of the Venus flytrap plant. The Venus flytrap is a carnivorous plant- it’s a Meat Eater! Students learned it catches its prey (insects and arachnids) with a trapping structure. The structure is triggered by tiny hairs on their inner surfaces.
One student played the role of the plant while another student played the role of the food. Students learned the trap only snaps shut after the second contact within twenty seconds.
