Update: Delays in Dairy Queen Construction
June 7th, 2017 by iPhoneDairy Queen announced in December that they will be opening a new Grill & Chill, on Highway 425 North, near Sonic & Valero.
Dairy Queen’s building permit information was presented to the City Council at their March meeting.
The hold up with construction reportedly has to do with a high pressure, underground gas line, that runs from Centerpoint’s Wilmar transmission line to Monticello. That line ends just east of the Dairy Queen property, where it splits into service lines.
Regulations do not allow permanent structures to be built on top of the gas lines, thereby seemingly eliminating the possibility of the restaurant being constructed directly on top of the line.
Unconfirmed reports tell us that negotiations are still underway, to make construction possible; but do not indicate what changes would have to take place in order for a compromise to be reached.
In the photos above, the arrows point to the gas line. In the map, the red dot shows the location of the proposed restaurant.
