Crayton Harris To Race At The AMA Loretta Lynn Motocross Nationals
July 9th, 2020 by SubmittedCrayton Harris (10) of Monticello is the son of Dustin & Laci Harris. He is a honor roll student at MIS. Crayton is known around Monticello as “the kid who rides the dirt bikes”.
This is an exciting time for Crayton as he has recently punched his “Ticket” and will be traveling back to the AMA Loretta Lynn Motocross Nationals at country Legend Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN. This is the largest race any adult or child can qualify for in hopes of earning the coveted “Ticket” that grants the rider a secured spot in this race.
This will be Crayton’s second trip to race at Loretta’s Ranch. He previously raced there in 2017 where he placed 20th overall out of 42 riders in his particular class. Riders from all over the world join this adventure many refer to as “The Road to Loretta’s”. The journey would normally include going to as many “Area Qualifiers” at tracks all across the US to try to finish in an overall top place (usually top 8) to transfer to the next step called the “Regional”. There are tons of people trying to qualify to be in the main event at the Regional event (3 Moto’s or 3 races). At the end of the Regional the top 6 riders (depending on what region they are competing in) will earn a “Ticket” to Loretta’s and have secured a spot to race at the Largest National Motocross Race each year. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic this year they moved everything to a “Super Regional” where each class was capped at 72 riders + alternates that would race to earn a spot in the next two moto’s/races. Many riders enter the Regional’s with huge hopes of earning a Top 6 place at the end of the event. An example of how many people try to get into this race (numbers based off of public information on the MX Sponsor Website and BIO of the organization) in 2016 22,000 riders attempted to earn 1 of the 42 spots in each class. Positions available from the 22,000 is 1482. The numbers of participants only continue to grow and additional classes added as companies continue to improve and offer a few a new products over the course of a few years. One new class offered for 2020 is the new all Electric 50cc dirt bikes.
Crayton will be racing at Loretta’s August 3, 2020 – August 8, 2020. Adults & children from all over the world will attend this race and compete with riders they may not ever get the chance to do again due to being from all over the world. During the regional two weeks ago Crayton raced with one child all the way from Alaska and another from Hawii in 2017. It’s amazing all of the families you will meet during this week. Motocross Fans call this “The Dream Motocross Vacation”.
The trip of course comes with a price tag but thanks to sponsors and the help of our community it certainly helps with the cost. Many have asked how do we raise money for this and what can people do to help. We will continue to do regular sponsorship’s for anyone who would like to contribute to his racing expenses. We are also doing a $30 Whole Boston Butt Pre Order that will be available for pickup on July 17, 2020 from SEEMS Ambulance service. All orders must be pre-paid. You may contact Laci Harris 870-723-4500 / Patricia Deaton 870-723-4925 / Kari Harris 870-723-8608 to place your order.
