None of the city council members are fisherman. My goodness…
Any fisherman knows that the lake is junk and all these concerns are immediate type concerns that can’t understand that 5 years will make the lake phenenomal again. Let grannies and pontoon people comment against, a dude that claims he fishes, and business man speak against.. Everything in this society has gotten so immediate that we can’t give up 5 years of lake Monticello. I HAVEN’T been there in 10 years because it’s became junk. Draw it down completely and start over. . Every TRUE bass, crappie, bream fisherman knows that it NEEDS it. If it’s not drawn down, get me and many anglers will just keep going to Chicot and the rivers. This is for the future. 5 years….C’mon man!
@ KR – I am glad you know me well enough to know I am not a fisherman. Don’t rely on anonymous blog comments to have your voice heard. The grannies, pontoon people, dude that claims he fishes and business man took time out of there busy lives to make sure there voice was heard. The City Council needs and wants public input on this important decision. We will be making the decision at the August 29th 6PM Council meeting. I urge you to come out and speak your mind.
Joe Meeks
Alderman Ward 3 Pos 2
Remember when you could drive out to the lake in the winter and there would be boats everywhere crappie fishing? I’ve driven the levee when it looked as though you could walk from boat to boat there were so many. Then suddenly the boats disappeared. Everyone around town complained that instead of catching crappie, all anyone could catch is white bass. Now there is the opportunity to eradicate the white bass and bring the crappie and bass fishing back. I’m with KR, Lake Monticello used to be a source of pride for our community. Now…it’s just another lake.
When it comes to lake Monticello, I see both sides have some good
points. However, I think that overall we need to decide if we want to fix he problem or just put a bandage on it. I’m looking at it like this. Let say one has a heart attack, what do we do. Do you go to the hospital? Do you go to the doctor. Doctor said you need open heart surgery. Do you go though with the surgery? A lot of other people tell you that you don’t need the surgery. Start exercising, eat better, and etc.. what should I do? First I need to decide on what I wanted to do. Second take the necessary steps to do that. As for the lake I feel that AG&F are the experts in this field. If we Monticello as a town want to
FIX listen to the AG&F and do as they say. I like to fish for crappie but some days are good some are not so good when it come to catching them. But I can’t tell you to fix the lake. So fix the problem or put on
a bandage. Listen to the experts.
It is obvious to me from watching the video, that not a single council member bothered to do a little research before they came to the meeting. It would seem to me that as a council member you would want to at least be prepared to ask pertinent questions revolving around the issue.
Lake Monticello is not a sustainable fishery in its current state. AGFC pretty much stated that. A complete drain is needed. Lets do it now since the levee has to be repaired. Otherwise, be prepared to watch the lake continue its downhill slide.
OH BOY!!! Let’s drain the lake and in 15 years we are in the same position we are in now. I am sad to tell you this, but KR, Joe, and ill you are wrong. Lake Monticello is still one of the best fisheries in the state, still to this day weekly there are 6-7 lbs bass caught religiously. You wouldn’t know this because you said it yourself. YOU HAVEN’T BEEN THERE IN TEN YEARS!!! Which is crazy because 10 years ago I caught the biggest bass of my life there that was 27 1/2 inches long and weighed 13 lbs 3 oz. Please if you are not a person that has been there recently to see the grass slowly coming back and the carp slowly dying off and the bass fishing getting better and better already. PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT!! YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT IF YOU DO NOT FISH IT NOW!!! THANKS!!
