“Corner Stores” Donate $25,000 to Baptist Home
January 6th, 2016 by Joe BurgessThe Corner Store, one of the largest independent retailers of motor fuels and convenience merchandise in North America, recently donated $25,000 to The Baptist Home for Children in Monticello.
The donation was part of the proceeds from the annual Country Run 5K fun run held this past summer and fall.
The Little Rock Country Fun Run was held on Oct. 17 next to War Memorial Stadium. Marty Walter, a Monticello Corner Store manager, presented the check to Baptist Home staff members Randy Luper and Curt Crook.
“The Corner Store is committed to giving back to the communities that we have stores in and that support them by being loyal customers,” shared Walter. “This also shows Corner Store’s support of family and this great country we live in by choosing children’s charities in particular as their focus for giving back. Corner Store is proud to donate to Monticello’s own Arkansas Baptist Home for Children that do so much for children in need.”
Luper, Baptist Home campus director, said he was pleasantly surprised by the amount of the gen- erous donation from Corner Store. “I appreciate Marty Walter and his three Monticello Corner Store managers for their desire to im- pact the lives of children through our ministry,” said Luper. “This donation and others like it will be used to bring about healing and positive change in the lives of hurting children and youth.”
The Baptist Home is a ministry of Arkansas Baptist Children’s Homes and Family Ministries (ABCHomes,) a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization, which has been caring for children and families in crisis since 1894. Last year, ABCHomes impacted the lives of about 300 children and teens that lived at six ABCHomes locations. Many of these residents come to ABCHomes from situations of severe abuse, abandonment or neglect. In addition, more than 2,200 counseling sessions were provided to individuals, couples and families around the state by five licensed ABCHomes coun- selors.
