Around 6:20 PM, Sunday evening, this photo was taken of a confirmed rotation near the Drew Memorial Hospital/UAM area.

This rotation specifically is the reason that tornado sirens were sounded.

After seeing numerous critical comments on social media about the sirens having been sounded, without an actual National Weather Service tornado warning being issued, let me share this with you.

After 15 years of covering storms in Drew County, I have learned that Drew County is on the far edge of the National Weather Service radar in both Little Rock, and Jackson, Mississippi.

What that means is small weather systems can “slip through the cracks” of their radar systems, and effect on Drew County, as when tornadoes were reported in Ladelle, approximately two years ago, without a tornado warning having been issued.

I don’t think the sirens should be sound it every time there is a thunderstorm warning (which they aren’t), but with rotation is above Monticello, yes, that was the correct decision.
