Classic Story–Fire Dept. Rescues Puppy

July 10th, 2009 by

draw-puppyThis is the classic feel good story, but it is also true.

On a recent, hot June Friday afternoon, a “momma dog” and her litter of approximately 2 week old puppies, were dropped off inside the gate at the city’s trash transfer station, which also houses the city pound.  (this is not an appropriate or responsible action to take with animals.)

One of the small puppies fell into a drain pipe in the area, and couldn’t get out.

A city worker noticed the situation, and contacted the fire department.

Soon, Fire Chief Steven Faulkner, and firefighter Jack Thiele, along with city employee Steve Sandlin, arrived.  After trying various ways of removing the helpless puppy from the drain pipe, they used a medium size water hose to gently push the puppy backwards into a part of the underground pipe, where he could be safely removed.

It worked, and soon the puppy was back with his mom and family.

Please remember that the dogs were not from the animal control shelter, but had been thrown out by someone near the city’s facility.

A member of the humane society was nearby, and was highly complimentary of the work done to save the “little fellow.”

Now there’s a good “feel good” story for a Friday.
